The internship program at Aurora Picture Show is an important part of our Education and Outreach initiatives. By working with university students and aspiring film/art professionals, we hope to inspire and engage future arts leaders in the
community. The Aurora internship program helps these young professionals gain hands-on experience to help foster
their future careers. This Summer we have more interns than ever as we prepare for a significant move and also work to grow our youth education initiatives. These young ladies will be part of the backbone of this pivotal moment for the organization. Please welcome our new office interns and congratulate some of our past interns who have been promoted into an apprentice role for a specific program.
Read a little more about our interns and apprentices in this blog and feel free to introduce yourself at the next event:
GABRIELLE GREINER
Office Intern
Gabrielle studies information technology, literature and contemporary art at Sarah Lawrence College. Before joining the Aurora Picture Show as an intern, she worked as a film department intern at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. During this time she was recognized for excellence in graphic arts and video production. On campus, Gabrielle is an editor of Vanguard—a publication featuring interdisciplinary papers comprised of individuals dedicated to stimulating conversation about pedagogy on campus. In Houston, in the summertime, she is most likely to be found reading at the Menil with her labradoodle Judd, eating Indian food or attending yoga classes with her two sisters.
PARIS JOMADIAO
Office Intern
Paris Jomadiao is a Saudi-born Filipino raised in Texas. She dubs
herself as a "conceptual lens-based media super villain" because the
term "artist" really, really freaks her out. Regardless, she is in the
process of earning her BFA in Photography & Digital Media at the
University of Houston. Despite being stuck in a love-triangle between
photography & new media, her most current works are of stop-motion
animations which she creates using paper cut-out compositions that she
& her collaborative partner-in-crime, the enigmatic AFTK!, construct
by hand. She never really leaves home without at least one camera
& will always prefer film grain over pixels. Paris likes to cook, bake, read excessively, eat
excessively, watch films excessively, travel when she can, obsess over
nerdy things, and waste time on the internet.
MONICA FOOTE
Aurora Library and Archives Apprentice
Monica is a native-Houstonian with a BFA in Sculpture, Art History & Archaeology from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. She is a practicing mixed-media artist focusing on three-dimensional works and installation, and she is interested in incorporating video work into her portfolio (some day!). When she’s not archiving, organizing or digitizing at Aurora, Monica spends her time as a contributing artist-member of BOX13 ArtSpace, and works in visual display coordination and sales at the clothing store Anthropologie. She was recently awarded a sculpture residency at the Vermont Studio Center in 2011 and has been featured in exhibitions nationally and abroad; she is applying to MFA programs this fall for the following academic year.
ALYSSA STEPHENS
Summer Filmmaking Apprentice
Former intern, Alyssa Stephens, is returning this summer as a teaching apprentice and she is super excited to sharpen her knowledge of film and video with a younger generation. Now a senior in the fine art photography and digital media program at the University of Houston, Alyssa is looking forward to graduating and continuing to pursue her career as an artist.
Senior Apprentice in Programming
Vanessa Anne Godden was born in Ottawa, Canada in 1988. She developed a severe devotion to all things furry, fluffy, and cute at the age of 7 when she adopted her first pet, Tobiath Wilson Godden. Tobiath is a lively turtle, whose interests include walking, eating lettuce, and sun bathing. Vanessa acquired a number of furry and not so furry friends since that time, but still enjoys the company of her ever-faithful companion, Toby. Her hobbies include relaxing with four very silly cats (Tuxedo Mask, Bubbles, Ginger Gertrude Godden, and Louis William Longbottom III), exercising, traveling, and collecting knick-knacks from overseas. She is currently an apprentice under the lovely Mary Magsamen, whose wise and invaluable guidance and support has fueled Vanessa’s passion for video art, experimental cinema, and multimedia/interactive art.
